HISTORY
The Henderson House was built in 1884 for Dr. David W. Henderson, a Marysville physician. He moved to Marysville with his parents in 1837 and after graduation from the old Marysville Academy, volunteered for service in the Mexican War. After returning, he became a doctor and later enlisted as a surgeon in the 96th Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. After the war, Dr. Henderson practiced medicine in Marysville until his death in 1910. His home was a show place in town and the center of many civic activities.
The home changed hands several times over the next century. Most recently it was purchased in 1998 by Susan and Barry Cordell after sitting unoccupied for 20 years. The house was in such horrible condition many thought it should be razed rather than restored. The Cordell's wanted to bring the home back from the brink and took 16 months to transform the eyesore into the Castle Bed and Breakfast and Antique Shop. Shortly after the restoration the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Robert and Elizabeth Meeder purchased the Henderson House in 2002 and it spent three years as the home of Elizabeth’s antique business. In 2005, another transformation began. A 15 month renovation restored the 19th century mansion and now showcases Doc Henderson’s American-bistro cuisine in an incredible historic setting complete with a large front porch for outdoor dining. |
